When it comes to adult modeling, things have changed quite considerably during the last 15 years. There are many very large,
respectable companies in the adult sector. It might surprise you to know that the European division of Yahoo and several
multinational companies have quietly entered the field. The demand for quality adult entertainment is skyrocketing, and as a
result, more companies are producing adult content, increasing the competition and in many ways providing more opportunities for
the models that choose to do adult work.
A look at who the the average adult industry model might also surprise you. A significant percentage of the guys we've placed
are college students or recent graduates. Some are highly paid professionals, while others work in the retail sector or in
construction jobs. Other are musicians, actors, waitresses, young parents, or recent high school graduates. A surprising
number come from upper class families, and are simply trying it just for the thrill...
Here are a few Q&A's that might help you decide if it's something you would want to consider:
Why on earth would I want to do this?
For many people, the idea of getting naked in front of a camera is completely "over the top" when they first consider it. Yet
many of our models do decide to try adult modeling, and we almost never hear of anyone who is later unhappy with his decision.
Without exception, models we've referred for adult work have told us they enjoyed the experience, found it very liberating, and
discovered a new sense of comfort and acceptance of their own body. A very large percentage of people who do one session decide
to do more, because it's fun and it pays well.
What's it like doing an adult shoot?
Well, the answer is that it's different with every producer. The producers we work with run very low-key operations, usually
one or two camera operators and sometimes a sound or lighting person. The best producers work hard to ensure that their models
are comfortable and relaxed, and genuinely want their models to have a great time and enjoy themselves on the shoot. Of course,
almost everyone doing an adult shoot for the first time is nervous -- sometimes a little, sometimes incredibly so -- and guys in
particular can have problems performing. You also need to think about what you're comfortable doing, because there are lots of
options, and every producer will have a slightly different focus. Many models tell us that once they get comfortable, they are
often almost unaware that the camera is even there. And quite a few have told us that having the camera was an added thrill
that made the experience a lot more exciting and enjoyable.
For guys without adult modeling experience, most adult producers will want you to do a solo scene (i.e., jacking off) before
considering you for couples work. That way, you'll become familiar and comfortable with the situation and you'll have less of a
problem the next time. If you are considering doing more than just solo work, keep in mind (if you are straight) that about 40%
of male actors appearing in gay films are actually straight, so as long as you're comfortable trying it, being a straight guy
doesn't have to limit you to doing straight videos... you can do two-way jack-offs, oral, anal, or whatever you're willing to
try.
Won't it ruin my chances to be in mainstream media?
A long time ago, that was true. Today, there is very little stigma associated with adult work... Simon Rex, a popular MTV VJ,
did adult video early in his career, and when news broke of his adult work, it only helped increase his popularity (He later
landed a role in a Disney sitcom). Sylvester Stallone also did adult work in his early days, and the list goes on and on...
Mark Wahlburg, Pamela Anderson, Tommy Lee, even every issue of Playboy has famous models and actors doing nude work. With the
amount of nudity and sex that's now seen in mainstream television and film (not to mention former president Clinton himself
talking about receiving oral sex in the White House!), it should be pretty clear that the stigma associated with sex is pretty
much gone.
Well, I'm kinda nervous about the photographer getting off or trying something with me... isn't that a common thing in this
business?
There are definately some sleazy people in the industry, just like you'll find in any field. But part of our job is referring
you to quality companies where you'll be treated with respect and dignity. The producers we work with will never do anything
inappropriate or unethical; they make their living in the field, and a poor reputation spreads around pretty fast.
Is it safe?
All reputable studios insist on appropriate protection (condoms and what-not) for couples or multi-person scenes. Regardless of
the producer, you are always in control of the situation, and can choose what to do or not to do. And contrary to the
stereotypes, our experience is that performers in the adult industry aren't any more promiscuous than a random sampling of the
population... though it's always good to discuss specifics with whomever you're working with if you're doing anything more than
a single person/solo scene (i.e., jack off)
Is it legal?
Yes. There are a handful of states where adult videos aren't sold, but California is home to a large percentage of adult media
companies, and the laws here are quite open.
I'm a guy, and I'm worried that I'm not big enough... isn't everyone who is in adult video really well hung?
Actually, no.. A significant portion of guys in adult video are quite "average"... 5 or 6"... and do just fine. Of course, if
you are huge, it won't hurt :) And for whatever reason, guys who are uncircumsized are in more demand than guys who aren't.
OK, so it's sounding pretty cool, plus I can make some decent cash! Where do I learn more?
Well, before you jump in, we need to tell you that the adult field is fairly competitive, just as any other modeling field,
although less so than mainstream modeling. But if you've got the appealing look that our producers like, you'll likely get an
opportunity to "try your hand." If you haven't already done so, please fill out and submit your online
application. For guys, we will need two face closeups from slightly different angles, an upper body shirtless shot, a full
body shot in casual clothes, and if you're comfortable doing so, a nude full body shot and a nude hips-to-head shot.
